Winnipeg roots for Mimoza Duot

 

WINNIPEG – Thirteen- year-old singer Mimoza Duot of Winnipeg is taking on YTV’s The Next Star.

After a cross-Canada search where over 4000 talented Canadian kids showed up to audition, Corus Entertainment’s YTV launched the third season of its popular talent series The Next Star on July 19th in which the top 16 contestants from St. John’s and Montreal were chosen. The first three episodes take place during the nationwide audition period and feature hopefuls aged 15 and under as they try to make it to the next round.

The second episode was held in Saskatoon where Mimoza was among the top 16 announced, together leaders from Saskatoon, Toronto and part one of Edmonton.

“She begged us to drive her all the way to Saskatoon for this audition and, thank God, it’s worth it!” exclaimed Mimoza’s happy mom, Mimi Duot, who spoke to Pilipino Express from Toronto.

In the fall, Mimoza will be back to hit her books as a Grade 9 student at St. Boniface Diocesan High School, but for now, she is aiming at hitting the right notes to win YTV’s The Next Star.

The next episode will air on August 2nd where the next top 16 from Edmonton and Vancouver will be announced. Then, on August 10th, the top six overall will be selected.

All six finalists will be challenged in every aspect of showbiz from vocal exercises to participating in media interviews to perfecting a signature look. The six finalists will also record an original song that will be released on a compilation album. Only one of the six will become The Next Star and receive the grand prize package at the series’ finale on Sunday, September 26 at 7 p.m., live from Canada’s Wonderland amusement park.

The six finalists chosen will be mentored throughout the remaining seven episodes.

Their celebrity mentors are Suzie McNeil, Christopher Ward, and Steve Cranwell.

Modelled after the previous two seasons, viewers will vote for their favourite performer via YTV.com and text messages. The finalist with the most viewer votes will become The Next Star and take home the coveted prize package which includes: Kool- Aid Jammers Ultimate Jam Space featuring an Apple Macbook and Pro Tools recording software, a distribution deal with Universal Music Canada for the winner’s two songs, and a Songwriter Deluxe Acoustic Guitar courtesy of Gibson Guitars.
