Charice launches debut CD on Oprah show

Charice debuts CD on Oprah Show, May 10, 2010 WINNIPEG - Charice’s 18th birthday was on Monday, May 10th. On the very next day, she launched her first international album on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

“She is one of the most talented young people we’ve ever had on The Oprah Show. We first met her two years ago, a gifted little girl from half way around the world,” Winfrey said as she introduced the petit young Filipina singer to her TV audience on her May 11th show.

In the Oprah episode titled, The World’s Most Talented Kids, Charice was prominently featured with Canadian teen phenom, Justin Bieber.

“I can’t believe these are my own songs,” misty-eyed Charice said. She thanked everyone who helped her, “and that includes you,” she told Oprah. It was obvious that Charice is very dear to Oprah as the latter tenderly embraced the singer. Charice sang her debut single Pyramid with Iyaz, accompanied by music produce, David Foster.

Foster tearfully declared on the show that he was honoured when Charice asked him to be her godfather in her upcoming Catholic baptism in the Philippines.

Before the end of the episode, Charice sang another song from her album, In This Song, which she described as the song that tells her story.

Charice, who has already racked up more than 40 million views on YouTube, began her singing career at age four when her mother discovered her singing on a table top at home. She went on to perform in several singing contests in Southeast Asia. David Dueñas, one of her many fans, put one of her performances on YouTube and a star was born.

She first appeared in the US on The Ellen Show and then came to the attention of “Hit Man” David Foster who signed her to his 143/Reprise Records.

“Everyone at Reprise Records is passionate in their commitment to the success of Charice … we have a tremendous star with an extraordinary future … David Foster has once again brought us an artist that we fully expect will continue his amazing track record for discovering unique talent like Josh Groban and Michael Bublé,” said Reprise Records president Diarmuid Quinn.

On Friday, June 4th, Charice will delight her Canadian fans in Toronto with a free live performance at the Toronto Eaton Centre (Albert’s Way) at 6:00 pm. She will also sign copies of her new CD following the performance.

Charice remains modest about her fairy tale career.

“I feel very blessed to have people like David Foster, Oprah Winfrey and my Reprise family believe in me … [This] will be a week I will remember for the rest of my life,” said Charice.
