PINOY POP STAR GRAND FINALS

Sold out house at McPhillips Station Casino

WINNIPEG – Fourteen singers vied for the title of Grand Champion in the 2010 Pinoy Pop Star Grand Finals before a sell-out house at the McPhillips Station Casino on Tuesday, March 23.

Grace Ann Panganiban was crowned 2010 Pinoy Pop Star Grand Champion for her performance of Love You I Do from the musical Dream Girls. She took home $2000 in prize money.

First runner-up, wining $750, was Daisy Crisostomo who sang Strong Enough while Aiza Luna took home $500, as second runner-up for her Regine Velasquez-inspired rendition of Aerosmith’s Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.

The full-house audience was treated to strong performances from all the finalists, which also included Sherrie Ancheta (Saving All My Love for You), Janice Baris (Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me), Jiselle Candellaria (No One In The World), Chantal Cano (Listen), Jimuel De Castro (Never Alone), Allen Genota (This Is The Moment), Sheera Lumahang (When Love Takes Over), Elsa Mutya (Vision of Love), Cherrie-Len Olid (I Believe), Melanie Sayarot (If I Wrote A Note To God) and Joey Villanueva (The Climb).

The evening began with an ensemble performance of Lean on Me with all the finalists.

Up and coming R&B artist, Zacariah and a select group of local dancers thrilled the audience during the mini-concert after the competition.

Last year’s Pinoy Pop Star runner-up, Jesse James Baris brought friends Jenelle Salanguit, Rob Garcia, Clint Nebre and Alan Suban for an up-tempo set of live rock & roll.

The mini-concert was topped with a powerful and touching performance from 2009 Pinoy Pop Star Champion, Elsaida Alerta who dedicated her rendition of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing to all the finalists. Elsaida brought the song to an emotional climax by inviting all the finalists on stage to sing along.

The level of good-natured camaraderie among the finalists was evident as they remained on stage not only during the awards ceremony, but also during Grace Ann Panganiban’s encore performance, clapping and singing along.
