Write On! by Lucille NolascoCanada, a land of endless opportunities

Lucille coinMany people leave their homeland in search of a better life abroad. I am no different.

Armed with a dogged determination, I arrived in Canada on August 1, 2000, with the help of my uncle Ruben and his family. Since then I have faced challenges in different aspects of my life. I have felt a gamut of emotions as I lived a new life and met different people in my new home country. I almost gave up at times, and planned to go back. But you know what? All the tears, fears and apprehensions were all worth it. Canada is a land of endless opportunities. Like a coin, there are no bends and corners to limit you, only a continuous flow of possibilities.

This beautiful country takes care of its people on all fronts: free medical care, taxes that work for the residents, financial aid for families, seniors and students, a good business climate for entrepreneurs, reunification of families and friends, and most of all, this country embraces our cultural differences. Every Canadian is free to express his or her distinctive customs, views and ideas. This uniqueness is what makes Canada stand out in pride – a welcoming, beautiful mosaic of different people, working together as one.

Happy 150th birthday, Canada! Thank you for the love.
