In nature, we learn that where growth stops decay begins. This is a natural process of all living things and just like its biological counterpart; I believe the same can be said for our own personal growth. It’s noteworthy to mention that whenever and wherever you are in life, you are never too old and it’s never to late to work on becoming a better you.

School

This means striving to be a student who chooses to excel not because you want to be the best in your class, but because you want to be the best for yourself. Looking back, I could identify many aspects of my studies that would have helped me significantly now, had I chosen to give it my all. Building a firm foundation of education puts you in the best position to succeed in whatever you decide to do in the future.

Work

This means being a good employee. For the vast majority of us, we work to make a living; it is our livelihood. Whether you work in health care, commercial manufacturing or you’re the family that runs the convenience store down the street, be proud that you serve a purpose in this world and somebody is always thankful for it. Remember that no matter where you work and no matter what you do, do it with passion. Success in life should not be measured by how much you make, but by how much you make a difference.

Family

This means being a good son, daughter, parent, aunt, uncle, cousin etc. No matter what has happened in the past, your family is God’s precious gift to you, and just like a gift, you must treat it with the love and care a precious gift deserves. Only a few months ago, our family was shocked to discover that my father needed emergency triple-bypass surgery. He has made a full recovery but ever since then, we have learned a valuable lesson: life is short. The best service you could do for your own family is to simply learn to hate less and love more, a little every day. Eat together, laugh together, and even once in a while fight together, just as long as you experience it together.

Faith

As a person of faith, growing in my spiritual beliefs is important to me. It helps me to become a more compassionate citizen of this world, understanding of all people and their backgrounds. I attribute the greatest part of who I am as a result of the things I have learned through my faith journey and I would like to take this opportunity to thank God and everyone who has guided me along the way.

Thomas Edison put it best when he said, “We shall have no better conditions in the future if we are satisfied with all those which we have at present.” At the end of the day, I believe man’s greatest challenge will always be climbing his own mountains and facing his own monsters in an epic journey to satisfy the intrinsic desire to simply become the best version of himself.
