Emmie Z. Joaquin, Editor-in-ChiefMeet our Pulis Kababayan

Pilipino Express is pleased to introduce our new contributor, Constable Rey Olazo who will be writing Pulis Kababayan, beginning this issue. See Pulis Kababayan, at your service.

In the December 1, 2008 edition of Pilipino Express, we proudly featured Const. Olazo when he graduated from the Winnipeg Police Academy where he also received the much-coveted Sgt. Don Gove Award after he was named by his classmates and instructors the “Ideal Police Officer [of] Recruit Class No. 146.” From that time on, Const. Olazo has been an active member of the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), tackling various assignments that included General Patrol, Plain Clothes and Firearm Investigation. Currently, he is the WPS Diversity Relations Officer.

Prior to immigrating with his family to Canada in 2007, Const. Olazo spent 23 years in the field of law enforcement in the Philippines. He was one of “Manila’s Finest” in the Western Police District; he also joined the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and was Chief of NBI’s Security Management Division and Witness Protection Program. His educational portfolio is likewise impressive. He has a Civil Engineering degree from the University of the East and a law degree from the Far Eastern University – he passed both the Engineering Board Exam and the Philippine Bar. He also has an MBA.

Through his upcoming columns, we hope that you, our readers, will have the opportunity to ask him questions regarding policing, peace and order, and law enforcement in our city. If you have any uncertainties, our new columnist may be able to clarify issues that can help bolster the feeling of security as we all go through our daily lives. We also encourage you to share with our columnist your experiences, concerns and observations, whether good or bad, relative to the protection of our lives and property, and crime prevention.
