Dr. Rey Pagtakhan: three-time Q.E. Medallist

WINNIPEG – Dr. Rey Pagtakhan recently received from the Governor General of Canada Rt. Hon David Johnston the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. The Medal “is created to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne.”

The Governor General’s letter accompanying the Medal and Certificate states: “In granting you this honour, I thank you for your dedicated service to your peers, to your community and to Canada. The contributions you have made to our nation are most commendable and deserve our praise and admiration.”

Dr. Pagtakhan is now three times a Q.E. Medallist. It is a distinct honour for any Canadian and Filipino-Canadian. He had previously been honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977 on the occasions of the 50th and 25th anniversaries of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne, respectively.

He has a multifaceted career: physician, parliamentarian, cabinet minister, and community volunteer. He also holds two honorary doctorates – Doctor of Laws from his Alma Mater, the University of the Philippines (Manila) and Doctor of Science from the University of Perpetual Help (Rizal) – Jonelta Foundation School of Medicine. He is also a columnist of Pilipino Express.
