Over 100 recent Filipino immigrants attended the first of a new series of information sessions at the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba (PCCM) on October 26. The Kapit Bisig Pinoy Program provides information about peace and order, law enforcement and job opportunities with the City of Winnipeg to newcomers who have arrived within the last three years.
Speakers at the event included Winnipeg Police Constable and Pilipino Express columnist (Pulis Kababayan), Rey Olazo, Carole Frechette of the City of Winnipeg HR department, Melissa Kovacs-Toews of Manitoba Start and several Winnipeg Police Services officers who spoke on topics such as personal safety, bullying, prostitution and policing.
Kapit Bisig Pinoy is a joint project of the Winnipeg Police Service and the Philippine Association of Manitoba in cooperation with the PCCM and the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity and Sorority.
