Pinoy Singing Idol 2014

Two winners to compete in Vancouver

Sixteen young Filipino-Canadians showed off the their vocal talents in the Pinoy Singing Idol 2014 contest on Saturday, May 10, in the Garden City Shopping Centre. Bobbit Nepomuceno of the Vocal Arts Centre staged the event in cooperation with the mall to select two Manitoba representatives for the Pinoy New Talent Singing Idol National Finals in Vancouver on Sunday, May 25. The finals of the competition are part of Vancouver Spring Fest in the Pacific National Exhibition at the Forum.

Aiza Luna, won the adult category, singing I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing. Aiza was also the Second Runner-Up in Pilipino Express’ Pinoy Pop Star in 2010.

The junior category winner was Bea Jaime who sang Stand Up For Love. Bea will also sing as one of the opening performers at the upcoming Winnipeg concert of Charice at the Garrick Centre on May 31 along with Cheesa, Maria Aragon and Elesi.

The junior category included singers: Rolan Anthony, Naomi Concepcion, Eunice Fabricante, Mirella Grafil, Hannah Gresell, and Ysabella Samiana.

The adult contestants were: Bernadette Balagtas, Jenina Bondoc, Dianne Dizon, Moise (Jay-R) Duot, Maria Katapusan, JM Licardo, Angie Mojica, and Jason Robillon.

The entire group of singers kicked off the show with an impromptu performance of the Bruno Mars hit, Treasure, backed by the house band of John Carlo Corsiga, L’Jo Soto and Evan Sheppard, with Jaime Tony Gabriel working the lighting board. Winnipeg singer Rey Padua followed the opening production with several numbers.

The Pinoy Singing Idol 2014 judges were: Marby Aguilar of Pinoy Tribe Entertainment; singer/song writer, Russell Lee, who was also a guest performer; and Winnipeg musician, Jojo Yso.

Alyssa Camille Manaog and John Carlo Corsiga served as emcees for the afternoon.
