    IKAW: Still going strong!

With the NBA lockout over and done with, many basketball fans are once again revved up for the upcoming shortened season. The excitement in the air can also be felt here in Winnipeg as local basketball leagues look to start the New Year with a bang.

On Sunday January 8, the 20th IKAW Basketball League season got underway as players from 28 teams and three divisions (Open, 39 +, 48+), paraded in the Tec Voc High School gymnasium. Commissioner Jerry Medina, the committee and volunteers welcomed spectators with entertainment by Winnipeg’s own Maria Aragon and the competitions for best uniform and Miss IKAW.

Kevin Lamoureux, MP for Winnipeg North, and city councillors Harvey Smith and Mike Pagtakhan were also on hand to commence the season.

As the longest running Pinoy basketball league in Winnipeg, IKAW wishes all athletes an incredible and safe season.
