Mel and Rochelle Buenaventura, hosted another well attended dance event on November 27, 2010 at the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba (PCCM). Billed as a Dance Extravaganza and Appreciation Night, the occasion was a joint effort of several local dance groups dedicated to providing people opportunities to socialize while keeping physically fit through dancing.
With music provided by the excellent services of DJ Boyet Nicolas, there were special dance presentations by Eva and the Sidekicks, the Zumba Dance Exercise Group by Myrna Evaristo, the Chinese Sunshine Dance Group, Tony and Vicky Layugan, Ding and Violy Santos, and Mel and Rochelle Buenaventura. Edith Nadon and TJ Dejong also entertained with song performances.
However, the evening was not just about dancing. The event also raised funds for Operation Damayan Pamaskong Handog, a gift giving activity of Radyo Natin in Guimba, Nueva Ecija. Rochelle Buenaventura is the current president of the Guimbanian Association of Manitba.
The amount of $1,014, which was sent to the Philippines on December 7, provided Christmas gift packs to approximately 1,000 poor families and the families of seasonal farm workers. Every pack contained a half-kilo of pansit bihon, a half-kilo of pasta, a loaf of bread, margarine and three kilos of rice.
To complete the special evening at the PCCM, Mel and Rochelle presented appreciation awards to all the dance groups in recognition of their many years of dedication and commitment to unity and goodwill in the community.
Mel and Rochelle, who have been organizing dance events since 1995, expressed their heartfelt thanks to all their friends, supporters, volunteers and donors.
