Emmie Joaquin    February: the month of love & music

We are very proud to introduce to you the 52 semi-finalists to the Pinoy Pop Star 2010 singing competition. During the three days of auditions that we conducted, the judges were overwhelmed by the wealth of talented Pinoy-Canadians who sang before them. The live auditions on Jan. 5, 12 and 19 showed that Filipinos and music make a great team.

Each of the 52 semi-finalists received an impromptu critique from the members of the board of judges who generously gave the contestants advice on how to improve their craft as stage performers. There were no “cruel” comments a la Simon Cowell of American Idol. Instead, constructive criticism was offered to help the singers feel more comfortable and confident on stage as well as pointers to help them connect with their audience and hold their attention.

The semi-finals will be on February 23 and 24 at the Jaguars Dance Club in the Club Regent Casino. The seating, for those who are not familiar with the venue, is limited, so buy your tickets early to ensure that you get to meet the Pinoy Pop Star semi-finalists – you will not be disappointed.

We wish to thank our friends at McPhillips Station Casino for providing the venue for Pinoy Pop Star’s live auditions and for ensuring that everything was in order for our judges and contestants. Our thanks go as well to the judges who volunteered their time to screen scores of contest hopefuls from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on those three days in January.

The Pilipino Express would like to thank all our sponsors who have joined us to promote this competition aimed to discover more local talents and to provide a vehicle for them to showcase their singing prowess.
