Maria Cecilia Nicolas
1st in MABBA’s Bikini Class D

Over 260 athletes competed in the Manitoba Amateur Body Building Association (MABBA) Provincial Qualifier held on March 29th at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre in Winnipeg.

Filipino-Canadian Maria Cecilia Nicolas aka Mitch placed 1st in the Bikini Class D category where she competed against nine other athletes.

Mitch who immigrated to Canada in 2003 also participated in the Miss Latina del Mundo pageant in 2011 representing the Philippines. In 2012, she was chosen as Miss Congeniality when she competed in the Miss Universe Canada contest.

She is a certified Fitness Instructor with Laban Fitness in Thompson, Manitoba, and holds a 2nd degree black belt with the world Taekwondo Federation. She teaches Kickboxing Cardio, Total Body conditioning, and Taekwondo for children and Adults.

When she made up her mind to compete in the MABBA’s Bikini category, Mitch said that she doubled her training efforts, “For the past six months I have been training daily…morning and afternoon… with Chris Byrne for nutrition, muscle sculpting by Tracy Suru and posing with Betty Ann Weselak…my advise for women out there is to always be positive… it’s not just fitness, it’s life.”

Mitch continues her rigorous training in preparation for the Provincials on May 31st in Winnipeg. “If I make it on May 31st, I will be heading off to the Nationals in Edmonton.”
